COOK SPACE FRIDAY FEELS | Chinese New Year

H O P E . . .

On a date supposedly dedicated to love, we found ourselves yet again gripped in the horror of another senseless mass shooting on home soil. And, yet again, the response from our President did nothing to soothe our aching hearts. As we mourn the loss of far too many gone far too soon this President’s Day, we think back to our former fearless leader and can only aspire to soldier on in the pursuit of his message of hope and, ultimately, change

In our continued persistence, we're taking advantage of the Lunar New Year today to set some new goals for the coming season. And while we’ve recently added a flurry of classes designed to refresh the body & soul (as featured in Goop’s Healthy NYC Guide), we’re more than a little excited about comfort food forward spaces like The Sosta, the women-run restaurant devoted to pasta (maybe our favorite carb - see our upcoming Pasta 101 class) and to de-stigmatizing female indulgence as a private, shameful thing

HOW WE’RE CELEBRATING THE CHINESE NEW YEAR

At any (or all) of these fabulous Flushing + Chinatown locales

THE TABLE WE'D LOVE A SEAT AT
Black Feast, the pop up Supper Club from Chef Salimatu Amebe where each menu is inspired by a different African American artist (who wouldn't want a meal based on Nina Simone's"Nuff Said"?!)

WHAT’S BREAKING OUR HEARTS (BUT ALSO FASCINATING)

The resurgence of the real life Sex & The City drama

WHAT WE’RE READING

“No Man’s Land”, the female forward magazine from The Wing for women (hoping we don’t smear the pages too much with the famous monkey bread from Nora Ephron that’s featured)

WHO WE’RE CRUSHING ON

Daniel Breaker, the searingly soulful Aaron Burr from Hamilton, talking about the parallels between theatre and food (and making it look mighty fine too)

WHO WE’RE ADMIRING

Powerhouse chef Ashley Rath, redefining Mad Men food and the culture that accompanies it at The Grill and Bobbi Wegner, on how to raise conscious boys

WHAT WE’RE COCO(A) OVER

The new wave of “healthy” chocolates hitting the shelves

WHAT WE CAN’T WAIT FOR

The return of Atlanta (and our major man crush Donald Glover)

WHAT WE’RE STILL WRESTLING WITH

How to approach the oeuvre of some of our greatest artists, in light of recent harassment allegations

WHAT WE’RE GAWKING AT

The bombastic and divisive Vulture interview with Quincy Jones
