COOK SPACE FRIDAY FEELS | Handle with care

Michelle Mannix

2018 06 08 handle with care.jpg

On this bright, warm, and otherwise beautiful Summer Friday, we find ourselves a little bit broken this morning. True, the sun has finally found its stride and is using it with vigor, but no forecast can shake the shadows over New York this morning. With the heartbreaking news of Kate Spade this past Tuesday, and now the death of Anthony Bourdain this morning, whose work and words explored and expanded how we think about food and the human condition, this city has lost two of its icons. One can only hope that this shines a necessary light on a dark truth about mental and emotional distress in this country…and though, in this moment, the shock feels near impossible to shatter, it is worth reflecting on all the joy, humor and beauty these two brought into the world, if for far too short a time.
