Although Martin Luther King Jr. Day, since its first observation in 1986, has always had a profound impact on the national conversation around race and discrimination, the messages of inclusivity, freedom and equality have hit home with particular urgency these past two years. The unending onslaught from the “powers that be” to deny the basic human rights of those who make up a fundamental component in the tapestry of the American community, can be extremely disheartening, yet we take hope that with such heightened public awareness, the subject of injustice is at the forefront of the national conversation.

Our goal is to celebrate the diversity and history of our community, and to highlight the uniquely connective capacity of food to bring people together - we are so excited about our upcoming Origins of Southern Soul Food dinner, deriving inspiration from the original Reconciliation Dinner and built around the fundamental flavors and foods of Southern African American Cuisine.

We hope you’ve had a sensational week, and that, if nothing else, this past Monday sends you into the weekend with a little more light and a little more love.
