Today is International Women’s Day, and we’re taking full advantage. We’re proud to be a female founded company, one that strives to support and lift up the courageous community of wonder women we’ve been so fortunate to be a small part of.
So take today (and every damn day) to join us in celebration of the women in food, the women in friendship, the women absolutely everywhere who’s impetus it is to build one another up and support the empowerment and inclusion of all people through all walks of life.

PARTYING FOR PLANNED PARENTHOOD
We’re always down for a dance off (even though we may not win) and this International Women’s Day, we’ll happily get our groove on at the Ladies First Dance Party Celebrating Badass Women of Music in support of our beloved PP.
UGLY IS THE NEW PRETTY… AT LEAST ON THE PLATE
As we move (blissfully) away from inaccessible overly tweezered and hyper designed dishes, we’re going beyond the surface to find what really makes our food delicious, choosing flavor over frills.
A MAY FOR MEALS FROM AROUND THE WORLD
In a city whose makeup is woven from each and every far-flung corner of the world, it makes sense that our favorite foods should be just as internationally inspired. This May, we’re taking our taste buds on a trip to some of our favorite food meccas, right in our very own studio kitchen - from Japanese Street Food to Spanish Tapas, our Spring is looking mighty spicy.
PASTRIES FOR EMPOWERMENT
Hot Bread Kitchen has long been one of our favorite culinary institutions built by women for women, dedicated to creating economic opportunity by training low income and immigrant women for careers in food. Support this incredible group while satiating your sweet tooth at Pastryland, a charity bake sale featuring some of the city’s primo pastry talent.
OUR NEW NEIGHBOR WE’RE WELCOMING
Our block is pretty well stocked with sensational dessert destinations (from Ample Hills to Four and Twenty Blackbirds) but we’re more than a little excited at the impending opening of Malai in our hood, an ice cream shop dedicated to the flavors of India (think Jaggery with Tamarind Caramel or Golden Turmeric….yeah)
WHY EQUALITY DOESN’T EQUAL EMASCULATION
Balance across the board isn’t simply a “women’s issue”. It’s a human one.
INTENTIONALITY IN ART
From our newly announced New Moon Intention Circle with The First House to our Planning with Purpose workshops with our founder Michelle Mannix, we are all about creating awareness around our intentions. For further inspiration, we’re visiting the newly opened exhibition at The Rubin Museum, entitled “The Power of Intention : Re-Inventing the Prayer Wheel” which highlights how intentionality defines the quality of our actions and empowers us to create positive change.
THE BEAUTY IN BACTERIA
We’ve always been fond of a little funk here at Cook Space - from our Fermentation with Wild Ingredients class to our Yogurt + Cheese workshop we are down to clown with cultures. Seems the head of fermentation at Noma, David Zilber, is a fan too, as he breaks down the break down of the genetic material of our food, and why it’s the most magical method of coaxing out flavor.
FROM SAIGON TO SECOND AVENUE
We’re so excited for our upcoming Vietnamese Cuisine Class with Nini Nguyen on May 9th that we’re trying the newest Vietnamese spot to hit the city with rave reviews, Madame Vo BBQ.
A DAME WORTH DEIFYING
After stepping down from participation in the film “Luck”, Emma Thompson penned a powerful letter to Skydance, inquiring as to why they insisted on hiring accused sexual abuser John Lasseter, with her typical eloquence and magnanimity. Yes. Queen.
While March is home to some very fantastic holidays (Mardi Gras, International Women’s Day but to name a few) for the few Brits among us, this past Tuesday marked an intensely important date - Shrove Tuesday, which though rooted in religious origins is almost entirely about one thing….pancakes.
BON VOYAGE FROM BASTIANICH TO BATALI
After the mountain of accusations against him for sexual misconduct, Mario Batali’s restaurant partners, The Bastianich family, are finally severing ties.
THE FIGHT WE’RE BEHIND
Christopher Reed, the loquacious and much loved face often found mixing up magic at Bar Goto, has been diagnosed with ALS. To help him in his battle with the disease, a GoFundMe page has been created - any donations, big or small can make a difference,
